In the heart of Leith

Trinity House is home to a treasure trove of fascinating maritime memorabilia, characters and stories.

Today visitors can explore an eclectic mix of artworks, navigational equipment, and curiosities collected by Leith sailors throughout the centuries and from all corners of the globe.

Nicola runs the Learning and Community programme at Trinity House on behalf of Historic Environment Scotland. An excellent setting for interdisciplinary learning and discovering more about local heritage, landscape and environment. The site’s history links to key topics including journeys, transport, Scotland’s place in the world, trade and equalities. We also have workshops supporting skills for work in tourism and that use the Collection to inspire creativity in writing, performance or visual art.

All of the opportunities are FREE for learning, schools and community groups.
When groups are in the House it is closed to the public offering a uniquely safe, inclusive space.

Learning visits to Trinity House are eligible for the Scottish Government Heritage Travel Subsidy for Schools. Criteria and application for travel subsidy can be found here.

Community Groups & Adult Learning

Any community group with a learning focus qualifies for a free tour/workshop.

We work with:

Training providers like Access to Industry and Impact Arts.
Groups for older adults like U3A and Sporting Memories.
Many others including Young Carers, Women’s Institute and Building Roots.

Activities can include:

Tours and Object Handling (on site).
Talks and Object Handling (at your base).
Dementia friendly Object Handling and reminiscence.
Training to suit your client needs e.g. tour guide skills, visitor experience.
Facilitating the Collection as inspiration for creative work like writing and visual art.
